Miami Dade / Broward / West Palm Beach Homestead Exemption
Congratulation on becoming a new home owner, one of the first steps I always direct my clients (no investors) to do, it is to make sure they file for their Florida Homestead Exemption.
This should be done soon after closing given the following: must be a Florida resident, own and occupy the property as your permanent residence on January 1st of the year you claim the exemption. The application must be submitted by the deadline of March 1st.
Besides a break on the property taxes, there is a huge benefit to the Florida Homestead Exemption which is the unlimited protection of the value of the property.
